Maple Leafs trade rumours: Brayden Schenn is a possibility

There is a lot of buzz at the moment with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The reason is they have lost five straight games, are seventh out of eight teams in the Atlantic Division, and actually are tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the fewest points in the Eastern Conference. It appears Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube of Calahoo, Alberta is one the hot seat, especially after getting the dreaded “support” from Toronto general manager Brad Treliving on Tuesday.

Now, it would not be all that surprising if Treliving is on the hot seat too. This is what comes with the territory when you are the person in charge of hockey moves in the hockey market that receives the greatest media attention, and you are clearly not meeting expectations.

Now, the Maple Leafs have definitely taken a step back without Mitch Marner on their squad. Marner is with the Vegas Golden Knights presently and the Maple Leafs have not found an adequate forward as his replacement. The offensive struggles in Toronto are now magnified even further by the fact that their star player Auston Matthews has not played since November 11 due to a lower-body injury.

Who are the Maple Leafs interested in?

The player near the top of Treliving’s wish list at the moment appears to be St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Schenn has played 17 NHL seasons with the Blues, Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers. Schenn was also with the Blues when they won the 2019 Stanley Cup. Ironically, the coach of the Blues at the time was Berube.

Slow start with the Blues this season

Schenn has played in 19 games for the Blues in 2025-26, and only has two goals and four assists for six points. He is a -13 with 16 penalty minutes, one power-play point, 117 faceoff wins, eight blocked shots, 40 hits, three takeaways, and 19 giveaways. Schenn’s power-play point came in a 5-2 Blues win over the Vancouver Canucks on October 13. Schenn set up rookie right winger Jimmy Snuggerud of Minneapolis, Minnesota. It appears Snuggerud is not on the Blues’s list of potential trade targets as he brings offensive promise for the Blues for years to come.

Blues playing Maple Leafs on Tuesday

It is a glorious opportunity for Treliving to meet with Blues management on Tuesday. That is because the Blues and Maple Leafs are playing against each other on Tuesday in Toronto. In my opinion, due to Schenn’s slow start, it does not appear to be likely he will join the Maple Leafs due to his lack of offense so far.
