The Golden State Warriors are looking to make perhaps one final run at an NBA championship. They’ve made tough decisions over the past couple of years in order to maximize the waning years of Steph Curry’s career, including the departure of Klay Thompson and arrival of Jimmy Butler.
Warriors Could Be Active On NBA Trade Market
But given their up-and-down start to the 2025-26 campaign, they may need to make yet another move in order to bring in the necessary firepower to compete in the Western Conference. And that could mean making a trade for one of the big names that have been floating around in trade rumors in recent weeks.
One of the points of emphasis on potential improvement is bringing in an established big man. The team has been using Draymond Green as their starting center for most of the season thus far, with guys like Quinten Post, Al Horford, and Trayce Jackson-Davis providing depth on the front line. And while Green’s defensive pedigree can keep Golden State afloat in some games, the lack of size in Golden State’s front court will become apparent if they ever want to compete with the Nikola Jokics and Chet Holmgrens of the NBA world.
The all-in Warriors will be a team to monitor ahead of the trade deadline.
Golden State needs to take another big swing on the market to vault into legit contender status.

Could Anthony Davis be on the radar for the Warriors? There have been talks surrounding the Dallas Mavericks center at the start of the season, especially since the firing of team general manager Nico Harrison. It is thought that the Mavs could look to press the reset button by dealing some of their players in order to gain assets to maximize the NBA future of Cooper Flagg. Davis is certainly a candidate in that respect.
Or could Golden State look just down the road at a guy like Domantas Sabonis. The Sacramento Kings have fallen on hard times and will likely be selling off some of their talent in the coming months, including Sabonis and his specific skill set. His offensive ability would likely be a seamless fit for this current Warriors team, and the team could mask his defensive shortcomings and get the most out of what is left of his prime.
Would Golden State Be Willing To Mortgage The Future?
The Warriors are absolutely a trade away, I believe in what Steph/Jimmy can give you offensively. But they need more offensive juice/creativity somewhere.

Of course, the Warriors would have to part with some of their young talent and/or future assets to make a deal happen. There were already reports earlier in the week of Draymond Green cautioning the team against acquiring Lauri Markkanen when Utah’s asking price was too high. Would the team be willing to mortgage their future in order to bring in someone like Davis or Sabonis?
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Warriors are sitting at 9-7 and are in the 8th spot in the Western Conference. They will take on the Heat in Miami on Wednesday night before returning to San Francisco for a five-game home stand.
