76ers’ Tyrese Maxey Made NBA History In An OT Win For Philadelphia on Wednesday

The 76ers were on the road Thursday for their first of four meetings vs. the Bucks this season. Milwaukee was without two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo due to injury.

Despite that, the Bucks were competitive with the 76ers for most of the game and sent it to OT. However, Philadelphia outscored Milwaukee 17-8 in OT and won 123-114. Carrying the Sixers on Thursday night was all-star PG Tyrese Maxey. The 25-year-old continues to elevate his game in year six. Against the Bucks on Thursday, Tyrese Macey made NBA history. He is just the seventh player to have 50 points, three steals, and three blocks since 1973-74.

Tyrese Maxey is playing at a first-team All-NBA level to begin the 2025-26 season

Over the past two seasons, the future of the Philadelphia 76ers has shifted. The team was once built around 2022-23 NBA MVP Joel Embiid. However, knee injuries have derailed his playing time and effectiveness for the Sixers. With that, Tyrese Maxey has become the face of the franchise and a player the Sixers can lean on. His statistical output has only grown for Philadelphia with each passing season. Maxey’s 33.4 points per game in 2025-26 is a new career-high.

That is also the second-most points per game this season by a player, only behind the Lakers’ Luka Doncic. Tyrese Maxey has been magnificent to begin the year for Philadelphia. Against the Bucks on Thursday night, Maxey was clutch for the Sixers. He scored a career-high 54 points in a game that went to OT. Philadelphia walked away with a 123-114 win.

Tyrese Maxey had 54 points, five rebounds, nine assists, three steals, and three blocks. Per the NBA’s X account, Maxey is just the seventh player since 1973-74 to have 50 points, three steals, and three blocks in a game. The 25-year-old is doing his best to carry the 76ers early in the year. With a win on Thursday, the team is 9-6. That is sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Second in scoring for the Sixers vs. Bucks on Thursday was veteran forward Paul George. That was his second game of the season for Philadelphia. George had 21 points on 7-12 shooting. He was 4-7 from beyond the arc. The 76ers could need another player who can consistently average 20+ points per game and be available. That’s not something Paul George was able to accomplish in 2024-25. He has a chance to be a productive veteran for the Sixers in 2025-26.
