To begin the 2025-26 season, the Lakers are 12-4. The team is 8-2 in their last 10 games and has won four straight. That includes a narrow 108-106 win vs. the Jazz on Sunday.
Despite a strong start to the season, Los Angeles reportedly has interest in upgrading the roster. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Lakers are monitoring Miami’s Andrew Wiggins. The 30-year-old is in the final season of a four-year deal. Wiggins has a player option for the 2026-27 season. Will the Lakers make a serious move to trade for the one-time NBA champion?

The Los Angeles Lakers are at a unique point in their franchise. LeBron James is still on the roster and is one of the most respected players in the NBA. However, the Lakers have a perennial All-NBA talent in Luka Doncic. Night after night, he continues to carry Los Angeles. As a franchise, the Lakers want to win now with the roster they’ve assembled while also building for the future. That’s why NBA insider Jake Fischer says the Lakers have reported interest in Andrew Wiggins.
General manager Rob Pelinka would have to pull off a big-time trade to acquire Andrew Wiggins. The 30-year-old is still playing at a high level for the Heat. At last year’s trade deadline, the Heat and Warriors were involved in a five-time trade. In that deal, Andrew Wiggins was sent to the Heat and Jimmy Butler to the Warriors.

In 2025-26, Andrew Wiggins is averaging 16.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. His 16.7 points per game would be the third-most on the Lakers’ roster this season. Only behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Given their strong start to the year, the Lakers will reportedly monitor Miami’s Andrew Wiggins. He’s in the final season of a four-year deal and has a 2026-27 player option.
The 2025-26 NBA trade deadline is February 6. That is still well over two months away. Los Angeles will use that time to monitor their roster. If the Lakers feel they are serious contenders in the West, they’ll continue to inquire about Andrew Wiggins. The one-time all-star was the finishing piece to a Warriors roster a few seasons back that won a championship in 2022. Could Andrew Wiggins do the same for the Lakers in 2026? We’ll have to wait and see if the Heat are willing to part ways with a key piece of their rotation.
