For a team with as much talent on the roster as they have, it’s been a disastrous start for the Kings. Sacramento is 4-13 through its first 17 games of the 2025-26 season.
That is 14th of 15 teams in the Western Conference. On top of all this, starting PF Domantas Sabonis suffered a partially torn MCL. He is set to miss three to four weeks for the Kings. According to league insiders, the Kings are ready for a full rebuild. They have plans to explore trades with veteran players on the roster. That includes DeMar DeRozan. Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that the Los Angeles Clippers have shown “some interest” in acquiring DeMar DeRozan in a trade.
Will the Sacramento Kings have a fire sale before the NBA trade deadline?
The Clippers are showing interest in DeMar DeRozan, per @sam_amick
“DeMar DeRozan, the 36-year-old who league sources say has some interest from the LA Clippers, has a partial guarantee on his deal for next season (approximately $10 million of his $25.7 million). Malik Monk,… pic.twitter.com/UrSWnpWetr

Amid a poor start to the 2025-26 season, the Kings could reportedly be sellers at the trade deadline. We’re in late November, and it’s been a struggle for Sacramento. The team is 2-8 in their last 10. However, they are coming off a 128-123 win on Saturday vs. the Nuggets. Even with that win, the Kings find themselves buried in the Western Conference standings. It’s still early enough in the year that the Kings could hypothetically turn it around.
With how the season has begun, it’s hard to envision the Kings turning it around. NBA insiders have reported that Sacramento could part ways with veteran players on the roster like DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis. Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that another team in the West has shown “some interest” in DeMar DeRozan.

Despite a 5-12 start to their own season, Amick says the Clippers are monitoring DeRozan’s status with the Kings. DeMar DeRozan is in his 17th professional season and second with the Kings. For the first time sicne 2012-13, DeRozan is averaging less than 20+ points per game. His offesnive production has taken a slight step back this season.
DeMar DeRozan is on the books for $24.75 million in 2025-26. He is set to make $25.74 million in 2026-27, but only $10 million is guarenteed. The veteran could trigger other incentives if he were named an all-star this season. With his individual production and the team’s record, an all-star selection is unlikely. If the Kings are sellers at the deadline, the Clippers are already showing “some interest” in DeMar DeRozan. Will GM Scott Pery commit to a full rebuild in Sacramento?
