The Heat are 8-2 in their last 10 games and have won five straight. Miami is 12-6 to begin the 2025-26 season. That is currently third in the Eastern Conference.
This season, Miami’s 123.9 points per game are the best in the NBA as we approach December. That is well above the team’s 111.0 points per game in 2024-25. Recently, head coach Erik Spoelstra explained how he and the coaching staff completely overhauled the Heat’s offensive strategy. That change has led to instant offensive success for the Heat in 2025-26.

Since the 2008-09 season, Erik Spoelstra has been the head coach of the Heat. He started with Miami 1995 as a video editor and has worked his way up the ranks. Spoelstra has been the head coach for the last 18 seasons. In that time, he’s led the team to two NBA championships and six appearances in the NBA Finals. Erik Spoelstra is one of the smartest and well-respected coaches in the NBA.
In the 2025 playoffs, the Heat were swept by the Cavaliers. That included a 55-point loss in Game 4 of the first round. Erik Spoelstra called it the “most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been a part of.” It was a humbling loss for the Heat and one that the coaching staff made note of. Spoelstra said the team had plenty of time to prepare this offseaosn.
Erik Spoelstra on what lead to the Miami Heat’s new offense: We were absolutely outclassed and embarrassed in a really bad way in the playoffs…it was the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been a part of…locker room felt the same way…we had plenty of time to reevaluate… pic.twitter.com/R2QmnhMjpk

Miami has implemented a new offensive system for the 2025-26 season. So far, it’s working at a high level for the Heat. The team is 12-6 to begin the 2025-26 season. Additionally, they are 8-2 in their last 10 and have won five straight. On top of that, Miami’s 123.9 points per game is the best in the NBA. Recently, head coach Erik Spoelstra explained the team’s offensive strategy.
Previously, the Heat were running a lot of set plays with action and pick-and-rolls. In 2025-26, they are playing a free-flowing type of offense. Space and pace are key parts of Miami’s offensive strategy. The Heat have been playing a lot of isolation basketball this year, and it’s working at a high level. Nine players are averaging double-digit points per game for Miami in 2025-26. A new mindset for the Heat on offense has improved their output early in the season.
