According to Polymarket, Shula (+233) is the new favorite to become the next head coach of the New York Giants.
Shula, the grandson of Hall of Fame coach Mike Shula, is the Rams’ defensive coordinator. Shula has been Sean McVay’s right-hand man for nearly a decade, serving in various roles on the Rams’ staff since 2017.
The Rams have taken their defense to the next level under Shula. Without Aaron Donald, Shula has built an elite defensive line that includes Braden Fiske, Poona Ford, Kobie Turner, and Jared Verse.
Heading into Week 13, the Rams boast the NFL’s No. 1 scoring defense (16.3 points per game). Plus, Los Angeles is tied for second in turnovers with 20.
Shula, 39, will be one of the most popular names mentioned during this offseason’s coaching cycle. Although Shula has never been a head coach, he comes from the McVay coaching tree, which is always a good sign.
McVay’s coaching tree has produced several head coaches, including Matt LaFleur, Zac Taylor, Kevin O’Connell, and Liam Coen.

Besides Shula, who else is on Polymarket’s list of coaching candidates for the New York Giants?
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak (+456) is second on the list behind Shula. Kubiak, the son of Super Bowl-winning coach Gary Kubiak, is a well-respected offensive coordinator who has transformed Sam Darnold and the Seahawks into the NFL’s third-highest scoring team (29.5 points per game).
With Jaxson Dart in New York, Kubiak could be the perfect coach to pair with the young quarterback.
The Giants’ interim head coach is Mike Kafka (+1329), who took over for the fired Brian Daboll. Kafka will use this last stretch of the season as a tryout for the head coaching job. In two games, Kafka and the Giants have held leads over the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. The Giants devastatingly lost both games.
Would Bill Belichick (+1900) leave North Carolina to coach the Giants? Belichick won two Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells. However, Belichick’s reputation has taken a hit since he went to North Carolina, ending the speculation about the Giants.
