Timberwolves Trade Rumors: Minnesota Is Eager To Make An Upgrade At PG in 2025-26

After a 117-112 OT loss to the Kings on Monday, the Timberwolves dropped to 10-7. The team is 6-4 in their last 10 but has lost two straight.

Minnesota is seventh in the Western Conference as we approach December. Recently, NBA insider Michael Scotto shared an interesting report surrounding the Timberwolves. Scotto noted that the team has looked into making a serious upgrade at PG. The Timberwolves are keeping their eye on Ja Morant or another PG who may become available. Michael Scotto mentioned Minnesota’s “desire” to add a PG ahead of the trade deadline in February.

The Timberwolves want to add a talented PG to the roster

After starting 64 of his 71 games at PG for Minnesota in 2024-25, 38-year-old Mike Conley comes off the bench in 2025-26. The team replaced Conley with Donte DiVincenzo. Through 17 games, the PG posistion has left a lot to be desired for the Timberwolves. Tim Connelly is the President of Basketball Operations for Minnesota. In his time with the team, the Timberwolves have been aggressive in trades.

That started with acquiring Rudy Gobert from the Jazz and trading Karl-Anthony Towns ahead of 2024-25. Last season, the Timberwolves pursued Kevin Durant, but they were not able to land the two-time NBA champion. NBA insider Michael Scotto reported that Memphis’ Ja Morant is the next star player the Timberwolves would like to add. Scotto noted the team’s “desire” to add a PG ahead of the trade deadline in February.

Power forward Julius Randle leads the team wth 5.8 assists per game this season. Mike Conley’s 3.6 per game is the second-highest on the team. While Minnesota is three games above .500, the team believes it can make an upgrade at PG. One player the team will continue to monitor is the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant. There has been reported tension between Morant and his head coach, Tuomas Iisalo.

However, Scotto mentioned that the Grizzlies are hesitant to trade Morant. His stock is incredibly low compared to his first two seasons. Memphis has intentions to keep Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant together for the future. If that’s true, the Timberwolves will have to look elsewhere. Minnesota has well over two months to pursue another PG who may become available ahead of the trade deadline. If the team is serious about adding a PG, they’ll find a way to make a trade happen.
