When Kyle Larson won the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series championship, he didn’t just capture the sport’s biggest prize.

He also joined an elusive club.

Larson, who claimed title No. 1 in 2021, became just the 18th driver in NASCAR’s more than 75-year history to lay hold of multiple Cup Series crowns.

Check out what Larson and two others with more than one championship had to say about this achievement, which puts the driver of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy in some really elite company.

Drivers With More Than 1 Cup Series Title Are A Who’s Who Of NASCAR Legends

Kyle Larson is one of eight drivers who own a pair of NASCAR Cup Series championships.

The list of two-time champs features five drivers from the sport’s early years: Herb Thomas, Tim Flock, Buck Baker, Joe Weatherly and Ned Jarrett.

Along with Larson, two drivers from NASCAR’s modern era — Terry Labonte and Kyle Busch — are also two-time Cup Series champs.

Lee Petty, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Tony Stewart and Joey Logano are all three-time Cup Series champions. The only drivers with more than three titles are four-time champion Jeff Gordon and seven-time champs Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.

Logano, Busch and Larson are the only active drivers with more than one Cup Series championship.

Kyle deserves it,” Logano said of Larson after the 2025 season finale at Phoenix Raceway. “He’s a fantastic racer. He does it a lot different than me, so it’s interesting to see how they do over there. They obviously have a great team.

“Hendrick Motorsports is stout, and Larson is a great driver. Cliff (Daniels) is a great crew chief. And they show up when it matters. They do that really well.”

Told of Logano’s kind words, Larson showed equal respect for the Team Penske driver.

“It feels amazing to join him as well as the other multi-time champions,” Larson said at Phoenix. “I’m really excited.

“He’s a great champion. Hopefully, I can carry myself as a great multi-time champion, as well.”

Jeff Gordon Enjoys Teasing Kyle Larson About Not Having 4 Championships … Yet

Now the vice chairman at Hendrick Motorsports, the organization where he spent his entire Cup Series career, Jeff Gordon doesn’t mind seeing Kyle Larson inch closer toward his mark of four titles.

“I have the utmost respect for his abilities behind the wheel,” Gordon said after the final race of 2025. “Couldn’t be more proud of the effort that Rick (Hendrick, team owner) put into bringing him to Hendrick Motorsports. I always knew if you can put him behind the wheel of a Hendrick Motorsports car, he’d do special things.

“I also believe that records and championships, they’re made to be broken. As long as he’s on our team, I want him to win 10.”

Even so, prior to Larson bagging Cup Series championship No. 2, Gordon liked to playfully remind him that he still had a way to go to catch him in number of titles won at NASCAR’s premier level.

“You motivate people in different ways,” Gordon said. “He motivates himself in measuring and looking at what’s the next goal, the trophy, the championship. I use it for him, too. (I’d say), ‘Buddy, you got three to go. You’re only at one. You got to get to two before you can get to three, before you can get to four.’

“We have a standing joke about, ‘C’mon, come and get it.’ I hope he gets it and plenty more after that.”
