Netflix has released the trailer and release date for Elway, an upcoming documentary about Hall of Fame quarterback and Denver Broncos legend John Elway.
Watch: Elway Trailer
“John Elway, the most gifted quarterback in the National Football League,” a voice states in the opening moments of the Elway trailer.
Elway explores the life and career of the Broncos quarterback who became a king in Denver.
Before he took a snap with the Broncos, Elway attended Stanford University, where he excelled in football and baseball. Elway was so talented on the diamond that the New York Yankees selected Elway in the second round of the 1981 Major League Baseball draft.
Drafted by the Broncos with the first pick in 1983, Elway could immediately feel the pressure from the fans and organization to deliver the team a championship.
Times were tough at first, as Elway took a physical and mental beating during his early years with the Broncos.
Eventually, Elway figured things out, showcasing his rocket of an arm and otherworldly athletic ability. From 1985 to 1991, Elway is the only player to rush for over 200 yards and throw for over 3,000 yards in seven straight seasons.
Elway reached the pinnacle of the sport when he won the 1987 NFL MVP.
Despite Elway’s greatness, the future Hall of Famer still needed to win a championship. After losing in three Super Bowls (XXI, XXII, and XXIV), Elway needed to “sacrifice everything” to win.
Elway eventually won two Super Bowls (XXXII and XXXIII) with the Broncos. However, it came at the expense of a rocky marriage and tumultuous relationship with his family.
“People have no idea how hard this guy worked to be who he was,” Gary Kubiak, Elway’s backup quarterback in Denver, said in the trailer.
