The Philadelphia Eagles will be without one of their top defensive tackles for Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jalen Carter has been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Chargers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday.
This past Monday, Carter underwent a procedure on both of his shoulders. Carter is considered week-to-week and should return this season.
Schefter’s source adds that Carter wants to be as “close to 100%” as possible for the postseason run.
Carter has been dealing with shoulder injuries that date back to training camp. During Week 2’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Carter suffered a stinger that left him in visible discomfort.
Earlier this week, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio admitted that Carter has been dealing with a shoulder issue that has affected his play.
When healthy, Carter is a game-changer on the defensive line.
Carter has 107 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 12 passes defended in three seasons with the Eagles. In 2024, Carter was the anchor of the NFL’s No. 1 defense. Carter was named second-team All-Pro and earned Pro Bowl honors.
This season, the Eagles’ defense has looked like a shell of itself, especially up front. The defense has 24 sacks this season, which ranks in the bottom half of the league.
The defensive line was arguably the team’s strength in 2024, as evidenced by its six-sack performance in the Super Bowl LIX victory over the Chiefs.
In their last outing, the Eagles allowed 281 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the Black Friday loss to the Chicago Bears.
The Eagles rank 25th in total defense (347.2), a far cry from the dominant unit that played in 2024.

The sky is not falling in Philadelphia quite yet. However, there is a cause for concern.
Heading into Week 14, the Eagles are in first place in the NFC at 8-4. If the season ended today, the Eagles would be the No. 3 seed and host a home playoff game during Wild Card weekend.
The Eagles have some room for error, but it’s closing fast. The Dallas Cowboys have won three consecutive games, including wins over the Eagles and Chiefs.
At 6-5-1, the Cowboys are 1.5 games back of the Eagles in the NFC East.
Dallas has a tough game on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. If the Cowboys pull off the upset, all the pressure will then be on the Eagles, who face the Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Monday night.
