Fonseca is the reigning NextGen ATP Finals champion who opted out of playing again in 2025, but he is making time for an intriguing Miami Invitational match against Carlos Alcaraz.

Joao Fonseca Got A Buzz Cut
Alcaraz is not the only player who has taken hair risks in 2025. The buzz cut and the blonde era were staples for him this summer and fall.
Fonseca, who normally sports a full head of curly hair, has been spotted with is own buzz cut.
To be fair, he is not specifically copying Alcaraz.
He is fulfilling a promise he made after winning the Basel title.

What To Expect From Fonseca vs. Alcaraz
The next three days are loaded with tennis exhibitions in Atlanta on December 6, Newark (NJ) on December 7, and Miami on December 8. Aside from the Venus Williams and Madison Keys exhibition match in Charlotte on Thursday, the Fonseca vs. Alcaraz match holds the most intrigue.

Alcaraz has not played in roughly a month and was dealing with an injury. Fonseca also had end of season injury issues.
The World No. 1 Alcaraz will not want to be shown up by the teenager Fonseca.
That means fans can expect some crazy shotmaking and entertaining rallies.
They say exhibitions do not matter in the scheme of things, for rankings and points, but this one matters because it is the one that pits Alcaraz as the elder statesman, an unfamiliar role, against the fiery newcomer.
