Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders received a positive update regarding his status for the rest of the 2025 season.

Sanders will be QB1 for the rest of the season.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters on Monday that Sanders will be the starting quarterback for the team’s final four games of the regular season.
“I think all along with our quarterbacks and our young players, you’re always making sure that you’re making the right decisions for our guys,” Stefanski said via the Browns’ X account. “And I think he has constantly and consistently gotten better in each one of these games. And how he’s approached this game, he’s been working very hard. So, I feel good about where his development is heading. He knows there are always going to be plays where he can be better and those types of things. But he’s very intentional about getting better each and every game he’s out there.”
The news comes one day after Sanders played his best game as a pro in the Browns’ 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Sanders finished 23 of 42 for 364 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Sanders also rushed for 29 yards and one touchdown.
This season, Sanders is 54 of 103 for 769 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions in four games. On the ground, Sanders has 50 rushing yards and one touchdown on eight carries.
The Browns are 1-2 in Sanders’ three starts. Sanders became the Browns’ first quarterback in 30 years to win in his first NFL start, a 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sanders is the Browns’ starting quarterback for the rest of 2025. What will happen in 2026?
It’s too early to tell if Sanders will enter the 2026 season as the clear-cut starter. However, it’s safe to assume Sanders will have a chance to compete for the role, especially if he continues to show promise over the last four games.
Dillon Gabriel, the other rookie quarterback Sanders replaced, could compete for the job, too.
Then, there’s Deshaun Watson, who is expected to be on the Browns’ roster in 2026. If the Browns cut Watson in the offseason, it would be a dead salary cap hit of nearly $135 million before June 1 and a $53 million cap hit if he were designated a post-June 1 release.
The Browns also have two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, so Cleveland could consider taking another rookie quarterback.
