Toronto Raptors RJ Barrett To Miss At Least Another Week After Knee Injection

Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett will be sidelined for at least another week following a platelet-rich plasma injection in his sprained right knee, the team announced Monday.

RJ Barrett Suffered Knee Injury Against Nets

Barrett, 25, sustained the injury in Toronto’s 119-109 home loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 23 when he landed awkwardly after a dunk in the third quarter.

The 6-foot-6 Barrett has missed eight games and will sit out at least two more this week before he’s reevaluated. The seventh-year wing is averaging just 19.4 points per game, his lowest mark since the 2020-21 season.

However, Barrett is shooting a career-best 50.6% from the field and 35.6% from deep. He’s also averaging 3.8 assists, a career-low 4.8 rebounds, and 30.9 minutes per game through 17 appearances.

In Toronto’s 117-104 home win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 2, he recorded a season-high 27 points on 10-of-19 (52.6%) shooting from the floor and only 2-for-8 (25%) from beyond the arc.

“We all know who RJ is and what he brings to the table for us,” said Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic on Sunday. “He’s a very important player for us offensively, but I don’t want to look at it in those terms. He’s not here.

“We gotta figure it out. We have a more than capable team. We have a lot of talent.”

Raptors Acquired Barrett From Knicks

Since Barrett was acquired in a trade with the Knicks at the trade deadline in the 2023-24 season, he has averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game with the Raptors in 107 outings.

Last season, Barrett averaged career highs of 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per contest in 58 games, while shooting 46.8% from the field and 35% from 3-point territory.

Per Spotrac, Barrett is earning $27.7 million this season and is slated to make $29.61 million in 2026-27. This is part of the four-year, $107 million contract he signed with the New York Knicks in 2022.

The Raptors (15-10) have lost five of their last six games.

Toronto hosts the Knicks (16-7) in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup on Tuesday. If they win, they’ll play in the semifinals on Saturday. If they lose, they’ll face the losing team of the Heat-Magic matchup.
