As the 2025–26 offseason pushes forward, trade chatter around Tarik Skubal begun to heat up, and the Dodgers appear to be front-and-center. According to recent reports, Los Angeles is “in talks on a potential mega trade” with the Detroit Tigers for the Cy Young–winning left-hander.
Top MLB Team Looks To Get Stronger By Adding Cy Young Winner
Skubal, coming off back-to-back dominant seasons, remains under team control only through 2026 with no extension in sight. That uncertainty has made him one of the most coveted arms on the trade market. MLB insiders believe Detroit may be willing to deal him if the return is right. In fact, according to Tigers’ president of baseball operations Scott Harris, no player on the team’s roster is “untouchable”, which includes their star pitcher.
From Orlando, FL — here’s what I’m hearing at the Winter Meetings:
The @dodgers are in talks on a potential mega trade for @tigers ace @tarikskubal.

For the Dodgers, a Skubal acquisition would add yet another top-tier arm to an already formidable rotation. Their dominant rotation already includes stars like Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow, who all helped in bringing a second-straight championship to Los Angeles in 2025.
Dodgers Interest In Tarik Skubal Surprises No One
Landing someone of Skubal’s caliber won’t come cheap. According to one trade-package projection, Detroit could demand top Dodgers prospects, including outfielder Josue De Paula, who is LA’s top farm system player. But that’s a steep price, and potentially a risky one. Skubal enters his free-agency year following the 2026 season, meaning L.A. would have to consider either extending him at market-shattering money or gamble on a short-term rental.
But for a team that is all in for now and the future, it may be a risk that they’re willing to take.

From Detroit’s perspective, trading Skubal now could yield a haul of controllable pitchers and high-ceiling prospects. It could help restock a farm system that’s been drained in recent seasons, instead of letting the star pitcher walk for nothing next winter.
If that gamble pays off, with Los Angeles landing Skubal and locking him in for the long haul, we might be witnessing the assembly of a pitching dynasty.
