Ja Morant Remains Sidelined With Calf Injury
Morant, 26, remains sidelined with a Grade 1 right calf strain, which he sustained in the first quarter of a Nov. 15 road loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers
The two-time All-Star had been dealing with right ankle soreness prior to the calf strain.
Through 12 appearances (all starts) this season, Morant is averaging 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 1.0 steals, and a career-low 28.8 minutes per contest. Heโs also shooting only 35.9% from the field and 16.7% from deep.
Perย Spotrac, Morant is earning $39.5 million this season and is in the third year of a five-year, $197.2 million contract. Heโs slated to earn $42.16 million next season and as much as $44.88 million in 2027-28. His deal also includes a 15% trade bonus.
Morant sparked trade speculation on Halloween after the former first-rounder had a disagreement with the coaching staff during a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Miami Heat reportedly had internal discussions about potentially trading for the 6-foot-2 guard, per NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
It’s unclear if the Grizzlies will trade Morant before this season’s deadline.
