Michigan May Have Met Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer Ahead of SEC Championship, Flight Logs Show

Michigan football fired head coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday, December 10th, with cause for having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. But Wolverines fans might not have to wait very long to find out his eventual replacement.

An airport commonly used by the University of Michigan football program recently booked a flight to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Thursday. The public flight log has immediately sparked widespread speculation about the potential to lure Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer to Ann Arbor.

Reports indicate that Michigan officials may have met with DeBoer ahead of the SEC Championship Game. Even if the alleged meeting took place, the Wolverines could still wait until after the College Football Playoff to make the move official.

Alabama is set to take on No. 8 Oklahoma in the first round of the College Football Playoff on December 19th.

DeBoer Could Take Michigan’s Offense To New Heights

With National Signing Day already behind them, the Wolverines find themselves in a precarious position. Michigan didn’t lose recruits due to Moore’s departure, but it did miss out on nearly all of the top names in this year’s coaching carousel.

DeBoer has been widely regarded as one of the top offensive minds in college football and could provide Michigan with the kind of strategic vision needed to take the program to new heights. While discussions are ongoing, the flight booking suggests that Michigan is moving quickly to gauge his interest and secure its top candidate.

CFB Insiders Believe DeBoer Leads Michigan’s List of Candidates

“The Michigan job is an elite job,” college football insider Josh Pate said on Wednesday. “…I don’t know how long this will take [to fill the vacancy].”

“The only thing that can maybe prolong it is — are you going after a guy that is in the playoff and does he keep winning?”

That description certainly fits DeBoer’s situation.

Michigan athletic officials have not commented on the meeting or any potential agreements, but DeBoer has been named as a potential replacement by ESPN, CBS Sports, and other national outlets.
