To begin the 2025-26 season, the Indiana Pacers have been battling several injuries. That’s allowed the team to sign free agents to 10-day contracts.
Indiana did that earlier this season. The Pacers waived Monte Morris and signed Jeremiah Robinson-Earl to a standard contract. Robinson-Earl made 17 appearances and three starts for Indiana. On Thursday, December 11, NBA insiders announced that Jeremiah Robinson-Earl has been waived by the Pacers. In his place, Garrison Mathews was signed to a standard contract.

In 2025-26, the Pacers signed Garrison Mathews to two 10-day contracts. Players are unable to sign more than two 10-day contracts in a single season. Indiana had a choice to make. Either let Garrison Mathews walk or sign him to a standard deal. The Pacers already had a full 15-man roster. However, Forbes’ Tony East reported that Indiana waived Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. This opened up a roster spot for Garrison Mathews.
The team signed the 29-year-old to a standard NBA contract. Garrison Mathews got his start in the league with the Wizards. They signed Mathews to a two-way deal after he went undrafted in 2019. Over his seven-year career, Mathews has bounced around the NBA. Indiana is the fourth franchise he’s played for. He spent 47 games and made two starts for Atlanta in 2024-25.

Due to injuries in 2025-26, the Pacers were awarded a hardship deal. They signed Garrison Mathews to a 10-day contract on November 21. Over his first five games with Indiana, Mathews totaled just nine points in 46 minutes of action. Despite the lack of production, Mathews was signed to a second 10-day deal. Garrison Mathews admitted to the media that he was a “little surprised” to be brought back.
However, Mathews made the most of his opportunity in his second 10-day contract with the Pacers. After just nine total points in his first five, Mathews averaged 8.5 points per game in his last four outings. That includes a season-high 15 points where he was 3-3 from beyond the arc. In order to sign Garrison Mathews, the Pacers had to waive Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. Assuming he is cut, Indiana will carry a dead cap of $589,306 for parting ways with Robinson-Earl mid-season.
