As of late, the New York Knicks are playing their best basketball of the season. The team is 17-7 to begin 2025-26. Additionally, they are 8-2 in their last 10 and have won four straight.
New York is second in the Eastern Conference, behind Detroit, and is two games back. With the success they’ve had early on, the Knicks are always active on the trade market. Recently, NBA insider Ian Begley shared the latest trade rumors surrounding the Knicks. He reported that New York is expected to show interest in Pelicans’ Jose Alvarado if he were made available.
Will the New Orleans Pelicans trade Jose Alvarado?

“ I think teams around the league are just keeping an eye down there to see who’s New Orleans going to make available. What will they want for those players? A New York product, Jose Alvarado, if they… pic.twitter.com/cqiQhnd0ig

In 2021, Jose Alvarado went undrafted out of Georgia Tech. He eventually got his start with the New Orleans Pelicans on a two-way contract. The 27-year-old is currently in his fifth season with New Orleans. Alavarado has appeared in 252 games and made 34 starts for the Pelicans. At six feet, 180 pounds, Jose Alvarado is not the biggest player on the court. However, he is a disruptor. Opposing teams must know where Alcarado is at all times.
The backup PG is known for his stingy defense and level of effort each game. Jos Alvarado is on a two-year, $9 million deal with the Pelicans. He is on the books for $4.5 million in 2025-26. Alvarado has a $4.5 million player option in 2026-27. Recently, NBA insider Ian Begley reported that the New York Knicks could show interest in trading for Jose Alvarado.

First, the Knicks are keeping an eye on what is happening in New Orleans. The Pelicans are 4-22 through 26 games. That is the worst record in the Western Conference. If New Orleans continues to struggle, it could be sellers at the deadline. Jose Alvarado is on a cheap contract that the Knicks could easily trade for. It’s a matter of whether the Pelicans make Jose Alvarado available for trade.
However, Ian Begley stated that the Knicks will not be the only team checking on Alvarado’s availability. The veteran guard is expected to draw interest around the NBA. Jose Alvarado is a solid depth piece for any team looking to add to their roster. It’s worth noting that Jose Alvarado is a native of Brooklyn, New York. A trade to the Knicks would be a homecoming for the 27-year-old.
