Giants Next Head Coach: Kliff Kingsbury, Marcus Freeman Are Candidates

According to NFL insider Diana Russini, the New York Giants have a list of candidates for their head coaching vacancy.

The team will be hard at work in the coming weeks when the interviews process begins. After just over three years on the job, the team fired Brian Daboll in early November, creating one of the more attractive openings that there will be this coming offseason. And they are apparently prepared for the process, as their list consists of some marquee names, which we take a look at below:

Report: New York Giants Have A List Of Head Coaching Candidates

Marcus Freeman – Notre Dame Head Coach

With Notre Dame being left out of the College Football Playoff, rumors have begun to swirl around the future of their head coach. Marcus Freeman’s name has been brought up in Giants head coaching rumors over the past week, and there may end up being some legitimate interest between the two sides. This would certainly be the splashiest move, albeit a risky one, and New York would be taking a big swing with their next hire by bringing him in. According to the betting odds, Freeman is a -200 favorite to land the job.

Jeff Hafley – Packers Defensive Coordinator

Hafley would be a first-time NFL head coach, but he is well respected in the league and has history as a lead man in the college ranks. He has been the defensive coordinator for the Packers for the last two years, but was the head coach at Boston College from 2020 until 2023. Hafley spent seven years in the pros from 2012 until 2018, mostly as a defensive backs coach for the Buccaneers, Browns, and 49ers.

Lou Anarumo – Colts Defensive Coordinator

He has been mentioned in head coaching hiring cycles for a few years now, but is now finally Lou Anarumo’s time? After coming up in the college ranks, Anarumo has been in the NFL since 2012. He started as a defensive backs coach with both the Dolphins, and spent five years as the Bengals defensive coordinator from 2019-2024. He has some small familiarity with the Giants organization, as he was their DB coach in 2018.

Kliff Kingsbury – Commanders Offensive Coordinator

Kingsbury has head coaching experience in the pros, and is well known for his quarterback development. During his time as both an assistant and a lead man, Kinsgbury has worked with the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray, Caleb Williams, and Jayden Daniels, and has found success with each. If the Giants want to bring in someone to maximize the potential of Jaxson Dart, they may have to look no further.

Klint Kubiac – Seahawks Offensive Coordinator

Kubiac’s name is well-respected in the NFL, and he might finally get his shot at being a head coach in 2026. Like Kingsbury, he brings an offensive acumen that has proven to be successful, and it has continued in his current role as the Seahawk’s offensive currently ranks second in the league in points scored.
