St. Louis Blues centre Dylan Holloway is out six weeks with an ankle injury. Holloway’s ailment actually happened in practice on Sunday and not in a game situation.
How did the injury actually happen?
Holloway tripped during a drill and needed help off the ice according to Rogers Sportsnet. Practices can be effective in order to build team chemistry, but sometimes accidents can materialize even during practice or a non-game setting. When they do, the nature of the drills are put into question.
Holloway in 2025-26
In 33 games, Holloway has eight goals and nine assists for 17 points. He is a -11 with 11 penalty minutes, three power-play points, one game-winning goal, 76 shots on goal, 11 faceoff wins, 26 blocked shots, 91 hits, four takeaways and 20 giveaways.
Holloway’s game-winning goal
Holloway’s game-winning goal this season came in a 1-0 Blues win over the Utah Mammoth on November 29. Holloway scored from Phillip Broberg of Orebro, Sweden and Robert Thomas of Aurora, Ontario. Holloway’s game-winner came with one minute and 50 seconds left in the second period. The goal was overshadowed by the strong goaltending by Joel Hofer of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Hofer recorded his second shutout of the season. He also blanked the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 on November 6.
How did Holloway be a Blue?
During the offseason prior to the 2024-25 NHL regular season, the Blues signed Holloway and defenseman Philip Broberg of Orebro, Sweden from the Edmonton Oilers. Holloway and Broberg were restricted free agents. The Blues submitted an offer sheet to both players. The Oilers had the opportunity to match the contract offers, but decided not to do so. Holloway’s contract was two years and worth $4.58 million.
Holloway’s prior injury issue
Prior to playing a game in the 2021-22 season, Holloway had wrist surgery. He did not play a game until January of 2022. When he was playing, Holloway was suiting up for the Oilers’s minor hockey league affiliate in Bakersfield.
Worst goals for and against in the NHL
It has been a terrible season for the Blues. They only have 31 points and are six points back of the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks for a playoff spot. The one statistic that is glaringly bad is their team goals for and against ratio. It is currently at -37. The Blues have scored 86 goals and have given up a NHL high 123 goals. It has been a terrible season for Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, who has a goals against average of 3.49 and save percentage of .869. Binnington’s bad goaltending this season is why he should not be considered for the Canadian Olympic team.
