Hall Of Famer Kevin Garnett Reuniting With Timberwolves In New ‘All-Encompassing Role’

Kevin Garnett had a lengthy playing career in the NBA. He was in the league for 21 seasons. Fourteen of them were spent with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He was the fifth overall pick by Minnesota in the 1995 NBA draft. After the 2006-07 season, Garnett left the Timberwolves but rejoined the team for his final year in 2015-16. When his career ended, Garnett was not on good terms with owner Glen Taylor. New ownership has taken over in Minnesota, and Kevin Garnett is back in the mix. On Thursday, insiders announced Garnett is reuniting with the Timberwolves in a new “all-encompassing role.”

Kevin Garnett will have an active role with Minnesota moving forward

NBA insider Shams Charania reported Thursday morning that Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett is rejoining the team in an off-court role. Per Charania’s reports, Garnett is taking on a new “all-encompassing” role. It will involve business, community, and fan engagement, and content development. On top of all this, Kevin Garnett will finally have his #21 jersey retired in the rafters. Shams Charania noted that his jersey will be retired sometime over the next two seasons.

Kevin Garnett has been out of the NBA for a decade. His jersey retirement is long overdue. The 49-year-old is the greatest player in franchise history. Garentt is the only player in NBA history to lead a team in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks all-time. Additionally, he is the only player in Timberwolves history to win the MVP of the league.

The reason Garnett did not have his jersey retired was a fallout with former owner Glen Taylor. Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez are the new governors of the team. Kevin Garnett has built a rapport with Lore and Rodriguez. Enough to where the two sides were able to find some common ground. Minnesota’s all-time franchise leader has found his way back to the team.
