Stan Wawrinka Announces That 2026 Will Be His Final Year On The ATP Tour

In a heartfelt social media post, three-time Grand Slam champion and former ATP World No. 3 Stan Wawrinka announced that 2026 will be his final year on the ATP Tour.

Wawrinka will be 41 in March 2026. He turned professional in 2002.

The Swiss player’s legacy includes three Grand Slam wins, two over Novak Djokovic and one over Rafael Nadal, in the heyday of the Big Three Era.

“Stan the Man” or “Stanimal” as he is sometimes called also teamed with the other member of the Big Three, his compatriot Roger Federer, to win Olympic gold in men’s doubles at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

What Else Is Stan Wawrinka Known For?

Wawrinka’s one handed backhand shot is legendary.

The one handed backhand is becoming an extinct shot in the modern era of men’s and women’s tennis. It is replaced with the two-handed backhand which can provide more power. However, it does not look as fluid as the one-handed version.

Wawrinka is a fan-favorite, win or lose.

His resume of 16 titles and 582 career wins is Hall of Fame worthy. Wawrinka is often overshadowed by the Big Three and Andy Murray. He won each Grand Slam except for Wimbledon where his best results were quarterfinal finishes in 2014 and 2015.

Fans will be ready to celebrate Stan the Man’s legendary career at each ATP tournament he plays in 2026.
