The 2025-26 season is Franz Wagner’s fifth year in the NBA. He’s spent all five with the Magic. Wagner was the 8th overall pick by Orlando in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Michigan. The 24-year-old has started all 315 of his appearances for Orlando. In 2025-26, Wagner started the first 24 games of the season for the Magic. However, he suffered a sprained left ankle vs. the Knicks on December 7. Wagner did not return for that contest and has missed nine consecutive games.

Orlando’s head coach gave a troubling update on Monday evening. He said, “There’s no return date set or scheduled right now” for Franz Wagner. Not what fans wanted to hear. Before his injury, Wagner was playing at an all-star level for the Magic. In 24 starts, he is averaging 22.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals.
Franz Wagner was rock solid for the Magic earlier this season when Paolo Banchero missed time due to injury. Banchero hasn’t been able to give Orlando that dame type of consistency while Wagner is out. In his last nine games, Paolo Banchero is averaging 19.2 points per game. For the season, he’s averaging 19.9 points per game, the lowest of his career. The Magic will need Banchero to step up his game while Wagner misses time.
