The Tennessee Titans are casting a wide net in their search for a new head coach, and early indications suggest the franchise is prioritizing experience and schematic versatility. Among the candidates set to interview are Kansas City Chiefs coordinators Steve Spagnuolo and Matt Nagy, as well as Vance Joseph and Lou Anarumo.
Titans Set To Interview Nagy, Spagnuolo, & Others
Spagnuolo, the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator, is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s elite defensive minds. His units in Kansas City have consistently delivered in high-leverage moments, particularly during postseason runs. Spagnuolo previously served as head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2009 to 2011, and while that stint came under difficult circumstances, his résumé has only strengthened since.

For a Titans team that has historically leaned on defensive toughness, Spagnuolo would represent a return to foundational principles.
Nagy offers a contrasting profile as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator. He has played a key role in keeping Kansas City’s offense among the league’s over the last four years, even as personnel around Patrick Mahomes has changed. Nagy was head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018 to 2021, earning NFL Coach of the Year honors in his first season.
Though his tenure in Chicago ended poorly, his second stint in Kansas City has restored confidence in his offensive creativity and leadership, traits that could appeal to a Titans team seeking offensive stability and quarterback development.

Beyond the Chiefs’ coaching tree, Tennessee has also requested interviews with two respected defensive coordinators. Vance Joseph has overseen a strong turnaround for the Denver Broncos’ defense, and has some head coaching experience to bring to the table. The Titans have reportedly requested an interview with Lou Anarump as well, who spent this past season with the Indianapolis Colts.
The diversity of candidates highlights Tennessee’s open-minded approach. With two offensive-minded coaches and two defensive specialists on the interview list, the Titans appear focused on finding the right leader rather than committing to a specific philosophy.
Whoever the Titans hire will be the seventh permanent head coach since the franchise moved to Tennessee in 1997.
