Former first-round pick Jonathan Kuminga is in his fifth season with the Warriors. There was speculation that Golden State planned to move Kuminga in the 2025 offseason. 

Instead, the Warriors signed Jonathan Kuminga to a two-year, $46.8 million deal. Players who signed a new contract this offseason are not trade-eligible until January 15. Kuminga has been mentioned in several trade rumors this offseason. However, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that the Warriors are willing to keep Jonathan Kuminga past the trade deadline.

The Warriors could keep Jonathan Kuminga for the entire 2025-26 season

Jonathan Kuminga has been the subject of trade rumors for years. Despite that, he remains part of the Warriors’ roster. After his rookie contract expired this past offseason, Kuminga was a restricted free agent. While other teams had the chance to offer Kuminga a contract, Golden State had the opportunity to match. Eventually, the 23-year-old signed a two-year, $46.8 million deal with the Warriors. He is on the books for $22.5 million in 2025-26. That is also how much Kuminga was guarenteed at signing.

In 2026-27, Jonathan Kuminga has a $24.3 million club option with Golden State. It’s unknown if the team will retain Kuminga for another year. Additionally, NBA insiders have speculated whether the team will trade Kuminga in 2025-26. Recently. ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that the Warriors are willing to keep Jonathan Kuminga past the trade deadline.

Slater said this would be a “strategic posture” that comes with risks. While Jonathan Kuminga is still on the team, he is buried deep in Steve Kerr’s depth chart. He’s received a DNP in 12 of the Warriors’ last 13 games. Anthony Slater noted that Kuminga only played 10 total minutes in December. The former top 10 pick has consistently struggled to see minutes from Steve Kerr.

There have been several trade rumors surrounding Jonathan Kuminga this offseason. Anthony Slater said the Kings remain the most interested in acquiring Jonathan Kuminga. Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that Golden State’s asking price for Kuminga has gone down. The Kings want to send Malik Monk to the Warriors in exchange for Kuminga. However, that is not a deal the team wants to make. We’ll have to wait and see if Jonathan Kuminga is with the Warriors past the trade deadline. If they keep him, Kuminga could be traded during the offseason.
