After a 122-94 win vs. the Heat on Tuesday, the Timberwolves improved to 24-13. That is currently sixth in the Western Conference. Minnesota is 7-3 in its last 10 and has won three consecutive games.
Ahead of the trade deadline in February, it’s been reported that the Timberwolves want to make an upgrade at PG. NBA insider Jake Fischer noted that the team could use Mike Conley’s or Rob Dillingham’s contract for matching purposes. Additionally, Fischer said the team is not opposed to trading Rob Dillingham straight up. His future with Minnesota is not certain.

With the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, the Spurs selected Rob Dillingham out of Kentucky. On draft night, Minnesota traded a 2031 first-round pick and a 2030 pick swap to acquire Dillingham from San Antonio. The Timberwolves felt like they added a PG who could be a key piece moving forward. However, that plan has not worked out for Dillingham in his first two seasons. As a rookie in 2024-25, Dillingham appeared in 49 games and made one start for Minnesota.
During his sophomore campaign in 2025-26, Dillingham has played in 30 of the team’s 37 games. The 21-year-old is averaging just 10.0 minutes per game this season. Rob Dillingham has failed to find a consistent role in Chris Finch’s rotation. He is currently the fourth PG on the depth chart behind Donte DiVincenzo, Mike Conley, and Bones Hyland.

Fischer reported that Dillingham could be used in a trade for contract matching purposes. Dillingham is on the books for $6.8 million in 2025-26. Part of his rookie-scale deal with the Timberwolves. Jake Fischer said Minnesota is not opposed to listening to a straight-up offer for Rob Dillingham.
Despite being a young player who needs minutes to develop, Rob Dillingham is buried in the depth chart. Starting PG Donte DiVincenzo averages 31.2 minutes per game in 2025-26. Backup Mike Conley is at 18.8 minutes per game this season. Rob Dillingham is the fourth PG on the depth chart and averages just 10.0 minutes per game.
Minnesota was ultra-aggressive in acquiring Dillingham from the Spurs. Two years later, that plan seems to have backfired. Dillingham barley avrages double-digit minutes per game, and his overall field goal percentage is lower than his three-point percentage. That is never a good sign. A change of scenery might benefit Rob Dillingham in his career progression.
