In the high school Class of 2024, DJ Lagway was the #1 QB recruit from top rankings sites like On3 and 247 Sports. Lagway was considered a consensus five-star recruit after his career at Willis High School in Texas. Additionally, DJ Lagway was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year, among other awards. The talented QB received offers from most major programs around the country. That included Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, USC, and Clemson. However, Lagway chose to take his talents to Gainesville and play for the Florida Gators.
That is where DJ Lagway spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career. Lagway appeared in 24 total games for Florida. As a freshman, he appeared in 12 of the team’s 13 games and made six starts. He passed for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Lagway added 51 carries for 101 yards. As a sophomore, Lagway started all 12 games for Florida and went 4-8. Lagway threw for 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns, and an SEC-leading 14 interceptions.

DJ Lagway decided to hit the transfer portal ahead of the 026 season, and he’s found a new home. On Thursday, Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that DJ Lagway has committed to Baylor. The Texas-native has found his way back home to lone star state. That is not his only connection to Waco. DJ Lagway’s father was a running back for Baylor in the 1990s.
On Wednesday, reporters spotted DJ Lagway at a Baylor basketball game with head coach Dave Miradna. That should have been the first sign Lgway was seriously considering the Bears. In this transfer cycle, Lagway also took visits to Florida State and Virginia. However, he chose Baylor to be his next home. At 20 years old, DJ Lagway has a ton of room to grow as a QB. He learned some valuable lessons that he’ll take with him to Waco. Will the former five-star recruit take his game to another level in the Big 12?
