The 2026 tennis season is off and running and in typical tennis fashion, in a big way, with four events that will crown champions this weekend in Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong.
1. United Cup: Sydney, Australia
The semifinals between Switzerland and Belgium and the United States and Poland will take place on Friday night (US time).
The US and Poland were last year’s finalists. USA is the defending champion.
Since its inception in 2023, the US has won twice (2023 and 2025). Poland has been a two-time finalist (2024 and 2025).
Switzerland is being led by Stan Wawrinka and Belinda Bencic.
Belgium’s stars are Elise Mertens and Zizou Bergs.
USA has two Top 10 players in Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz.
Poland has Iga Swiatek and a reinvigorated and healthy Hubert Hurkacz.
Each team has additional doubles players and alternates who play when called upon in the three match battle that includes a WTA singles match, ATP singles match, and a mixed doubles match.
The final will be played on Saturday night (US time) with a yet to be announced time.
2. ASB Classic: Auckland, New Zealand
This is a WTA 250 event that has semifinalists Elina Svitolina and teenage rising American star Iva Jovic and Filipina tennis player Alexandra Eala facing Xinyu Wang.
Jovic and Eala also played doubles together and notched a big first round win against the veteran team of Svitolina and Venus Williams.
The final will be played on Saturday at a yet to be announced time.
3. Brisbane International: Brisbane, Australia
This is a WTA 500 event with defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals with an intriguing match against Karolina Muchova. The other semifinal pits Jessica Pegula against Marta Kostyuk.
The final will be played on Sunday at a yet to be announced time.
4. Hong Kong Open
This is an ATP 250 event with two Saturday semifinals scheduled between Lorenzo Musetti and Andrey Rublev and Alexander Bublik and Marcos Giron.
The final will be played on Sunday at a yet to be announced time.
