2025 Baltimore Orioles Preview: World Series Contenders or Cautionary Tale?

The Baltimore Orioles have announced that they will be giving away a Tupac bobblehead at the team’s May 8, 2026 home game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards (OPACY) against the Oakland Athletics.

Tupac Shakur was a rapper born in New York in June 1971 and was killed in Las Vegas on September 13, 1996. He lived in Baltimore from 1984 to 1988.

As expected, fans had plenty to say about this somewhat puzzling giveaway.

Social Media Comments For Baltimore Orioles Tupac Shakur Bobblehead Giveaway

A one word comment was prevalent among several posters: “Why?”

Some are not aware that Tupac spent his formative years in Baltimore, but it admittedly is more difficult to understand his connection to the Orioles than newly acquired free agent slugger Pete Alonso, who will also be the subject of a 2026 OPACY bobblehead giveway on August 22.

John C wrote: “If he were some hardcore O’s fan 30 years ago when he was still alive it might make sense.”

Burgers and Dogs thought this was a joke, stating: “I missed where today is April 1.”

Buddy Cooper had a better idea. If the Orioles want to pick a celebrity who is a fan, he believes Joan Jett is the correct choice.

Grumpy Old Man is not having any of this. He wrote: “What does this remotely have to do with the Orioles? You couldn’t do a bobble head that actually has something to do with the team. Perhaps a player. Your marketing/promotions is getting worse. What ever personnel changes you made, fire them and bring the old group back!”
