After the win on Sunday, Orlando traveled to Berlin, Germany, for their first international matchup. Thursday’s game vs. Memphis is special for several reasons. This game is a homecoming for Franz and Mo Wagner of the Magic. They both grew up in Berlin and dreamed of making it to the NBA. On top of that, Franz Wagner is making his return after a 16-game absence with an ankle injury.

In a matchup with the Knicks on December 7, Magic SF Franz Wagner suffered an ankle injury. After an MRI, it was determined that Wagner suffered a left high ankle sprain. The 24-year-old proceeded to miss the next 16 consecutive games for Orlando. However, the Magic received a positive injury update ahead of their game in Berlin on Thursday. Jason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel reported that Franz Wagner was off the injury report for Thursday’s matchup vs. Memphis. Great news for Magic fans.
At 22-18, Orlando is sixth in the Eastern Conference. If the season ended today, they would barely avoid the play-in tournament. That’s exactly where the Magic have been in the last few seasons. The team has been dealing with several injuries this season. Wagner’s return will be a massive boost for the starting lineup.

Franz Wagner made 24 starts for the Magic on December 7 before suffering a high ankle sprain. The former first-round pick was averaging 22.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. That is the production the Magic have desperately needed over the last five weeks. Luckily, Wagner is making his return in a place he calls home.
