Watch: Ja Morant Has Heated On-Court Exchange With Vince Williams Jr. At Practice

On Thursday, January 15, the Grizzlies will be in Berlin, Germany, to face the Magic. It’s the first meeting of a two-game international series between Memphis and Orlando.

Ahead of that matchup vs. the Magic, the Grizzlies ruled out PG Ja Morant due to a right calf contusion. It will be his sixth consecutive game missed for Memphis. Last week, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the Grizzlies are listening to trade offers for Morant ahead of the deadline. He’s reportedly upset that Memphis is shopping him. At practice on Wednesday in Berlin, the media caught Ja Morant having a lengthy head-to-head exchange with teammate Vince Williams Jr.

Ja Morant cannot stay out of the headlines for Memphis

After seven seasons with the Grizzlies, Ja Morant could be on the way out. The 26-year-old has been a locker room nightmare over the last two to three seasons. Earlier in 2025-26, Morant was suspended by the team for comments he made about head coach Tuomas Iisalo. Now, the all-star is getting into it with his teammates. Memphis must find a way to part ways with Ja Morant and start fresh.

At practice on Wednesday, reporters recorded a verbal altercation between Ja Morant and his teammate Vince Williams. The video was one minute and thirty seconds long. Eventually, a member of the Grizzlies coaching staff attempts to diffuse the situation. Morant and Williams did go their separate ways by the end of the clip. It’s not a great look for Ja Morant when he knows the team could actively trade him at any point.

On Wednesday in Berlin, Ja Morant spoke to the media. The PG offered short responses when asked about his future with the team. Morant said he has to “live with” his name being mentioned in trade rumors. Wednesday’s video between Ja Morant and Vince Williams Jr. shows the all-star PG is near his breaking point. Morant is struggling to get along with his teammtes and it’s dragging the franchise down.

Recently, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said that Ja Morant’s “career cannot continue in Memphis.” It’s in the best interest of both parties to move on. The Grizzlies still have foundational pieces of the roster along with young talent. Moving on from Ja Morant would give the team a sense of direction. The Heat have been rumored as an “attractive” landing spot for the PG who needs a reset in his career.
