Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant was listed as an executor of a trust that purchased a $3.2 million home in Miami-Dade County on Dec. 23, per Lucas Finton and Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Ja Morant Bought Home Near Heat Arena
This news surfaced on Wednesday just hours after Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko reported that the Miami Heat have “emerged as an attractive option to Morant and his camp” as a potential trade destination.
According to Iko, Morant “has a deep respect for Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra,” and the NBA franchise appeals to the two-time All-Star for being a “detail-oriented and structured” organization.
The house Morant purchased in December is approximately four miles away from the Kaseya Center, the Heat’s home arena, according to Finto and Cole.
Shelby County property records show Morant still owns two homes in Eads, Tennessee, through the trust he used to purchase them. The Miami property is “considerably smaller” than the other mansions owned by Morant, per Finto and Cole.
Timberwolves, Kings, Bucks Eyeing Morant
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported last Friday that Memphis was entertaining trade offers involving Morant.
Miami currently has two tradable first-round picks, in 2030 and 2032, ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline. If the Heat are unwilling to trade a first-rounder to acquire Morant, they would have to offer a star player like Tyler Herro.
The Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings, and Milwaukee Bucks have also shown interest in acquiring Morant, a source close to the Grizzlies confirmed.
Until this week, the Wolves and Kings were viewed as the top suitors for Morant.
Morant Has Been Limited Due To Injuries
Morant has been available for just 18 games this season due to a Grade 1 left calf strain and a right calf contusion.
He’s currently averaging career lows in points (19.0) and rebounds (3.2) while shooting just 40.1% from the field and 20.8% from 3-point range.
Per Spotrac, Morant is earning $39.5 million this season and is in the third year of a five-year, $197.2 million contract. He’s slated to earn $42.16 million in 2026-27 and $44.88 million in 2027-28.
Morant is currently in Berlin with the Grizzlies on a two-game trip in Europe and will face the Orlando Magic on Thursday.
A viral video captured a heated on-court exchange between Morant and teammate Vince Williams Jr. at Wednesday’s practice.
