League insiders reported last week that if the Los Angeles Lakers decide to make a trade before the Feb. 5 deadline, they likely won’t include their 2032 first-round draft pick in a deal.
“Trading that pick would lock the team’s ability to trade the 2031 pick now and the 2033 pick this summer. So, yeah, the 2032 pick probably isn’t going anywhere,” The Athletic’s Dan Woike wrote.
Lakers Seek Multiple First-Round Draft Picks
However, according to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports, the Lakers reportedly are “shopping around their future 2032 first-round pick for multiple first-round draft picks.”
O’Connor noted that Phoenix did the same thing a year ago, when the Suns traded their 2031 pick to the Utah Jazz for the lesser firsts in 2025, 2027, and 2029.
“So, it seems like the Lakers are looking out for two or three future first that are worse individually than their future first, which giving them more parts to put together in like [Gabe] Vincent plus [Jarred] Vanderbilt or Vincent plus [Maxi] Kleber types of packages. And so, the Lakers are definitely looking for a wing.
O’Connor mentioned that L.A. has interest in Pelicans forward Herb Jones, but New Orleans is rebuffing calls about Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy III, and Jones.
He went on to float the idea of the Lakers acquiring Jonathan Kuminga from the Golden State Warriors in a three-team trade where “Kuminga gets sent to the Lakers for filler plus a pick and then the Warriors send that pick plus other assets to go get a Michael Porter Jr.”
Los Angeles Could Trade For Andrew Wiggins
The Lakers have also been linked to Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins.
The Purple and Gold could move Kleber, Rui Hachimura, or Dalton Knecht to acquire Wiggins, who would then join a starting lineup in L.A. that includes Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, LeBron James, and Deandre Ayton.
Through 37 games (all starts) this season, Wiggins is averaging 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.1 blocks, and 31.8 minutes per outing while shooting 46.8% from the field and a career-best 40.2% from deep.
Per Spotrac, Wiggins is also earning $28.2 million this campaign and has a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27. This is part of the four-year, $109 million contract extension he signed with the Warriors in October 2022.
