Through their first 42 games of the 2025-26 season, the Mavericks are 16-26. Dallas is currently 12th in the West. The team is 4-6 in its last 10 games.
On Thursday, January 15, the Mavs were at home vs. the Jazz. Dallas routed Utah 144-122, and veteran Klay Thompson led the team with 26 points. It was a vintage performance from Thompson. He had 26 points in 23 minutes of action. The 35-year-old made NBA history on Thursday evening. Klay Thompson passed Damian Lillard and is now fourth all-time in career three-pointers made.

After 11 seasons with the Warriors, Klay Thompson left the team in free agency during the 2024 offseason. He signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the Mavericks. Thompson is signed with the team through the 2026-27 season. In 2024-25, Thompson started all 72 games he appeared in for Dallas. The four-time NBA champion averaged 14.0 points per game. When Klay Thompson originally joined Dallas, Luka Doncic was his main selling point.
Playing with an All-NBA talent like Doncic is something most players want to be part of. However, former Mavs GM Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic at the 2024-25 deadline to the Lakers. In return, the team received Anthony Davis. The one-time NBA champion has played in just 20 games sicne the trade last season due to several long-term injuries. Despite the roster changes and players missing time due to injury, Klay Thompson has not wavered.

The 35-year-old is not a full-time starter in 2025-26 like he was last season. Still, Thompson remains ready each night to contribute off the bench. On Thursday vs. the Jazz, Thompson had 26 points in 23 minutes. He made six threes against Utah. In the first quarter, one three-pointer made history for the five-time all-star. Thompson passed Portland’s Damian Lillard and is now fourth all-time for three-pointers made in a career.
In his professional career, Klay Thompson has made 2,809 threes. A majority of those made came with the Warriors. He made 2,481 threes as a member of Golden State. Over two seasons, Thompson has made 328 three-pointers and counting for Dallas. The sharpshooter will continue to add to his historic resume. When he calls it quits, Klay Thompson is a lock to make the Hall of Fame. Thompson is still under contract with the Mavs through 2026-27. We’ll have to wait and see how long he continues to play.
