Denver Nuggets Aaron Gordon Out At Least 4-6 Weeks With Hamstring Strain

Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon will be reevaluated in four to six weeks due to a right hamstring strain, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.

Aaron Gordon Reinjured Right Hamstring

Gordon aggravated his right hamstring strain in a Jan. 23 victory at Milwaukee. His initial injury sidelined him for six weeks and 19 games earlier this season.

Through 23 games (20 starts) with Denver this season, Gordon is averaging a career-high 17.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 27.9 minutes per contest with a shooting line of 50.9/40.0/78.9.

The Nuggets have a 17-6 record when Gordon plays this season, compared to a 14-10 mark when he’s unavailable. Denver currently sits third in the Western Conference standings with a 31-16 record.

In addition, Gordon sustained multiple soft tissue injuries last season, having missed time during the regular season with a calf strain and then suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain during the second round of the playoffs.

Nikola Jokic Nearing Return For Nuggets

Nuggets superstar center Nikola Jokic, who has been out since Dec. 29 due to a hyperextended left knee and bone bruise, will be reevaluated next week, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Tuesday’s episode of NBA Today.

While Charania reported a few weeks ago that the Nuggets were optimistic about Jokic potentially returning by the end of the month, the three-time NBA MVP will remain sidelined until at least February.

The update means Jokic will no longer be eligible for NBA awards and honors, as the 6-foot-11 big man has already been sidelined for 16 games this season and players cannot miss more than 17 games in a campaign.

If Jokic doesn’t return to action by this Sunday, Feb. 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he’ll fall short of the 65-game minimum requirement for end-of-season honors.

However, Jokic hasn’t experienced any setbacks on his path to recovery, and Charania said Jokic is making “great progress” and is in the “ramp-up phase of his return-to-play process.”

The Nuggets are also without forwards Cameron Johnson (right knee) and Christian Braun (left ankle).
