According to an account on X, senior guard Nimari Burnett allegedly paid a third party to complete homework assignments using his public Venmo account. Screenshots circulating online show transactions labeled “homework” during Burnett’s time at Texas Tech in 2021 and Alabama in 2023.
At this stage, there is no confirmation the payments were tied to academic work. The term “homework” could be literal, sarcastic, or unrelated. Still, the screenshots have raised questions because of how the NCAA historically treats academic integrity issues.
Burnett was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2025 and is a two-time recipient of Michigan’s Athletic Academic Achievement Award, which makes the optics of the allegation more sensitive even without verified evidence.

The payments include a praying hands emoji but no description. While the memo itself is not concerning, NCAA rules prohibit extra benefits or personal financial arrangements between athletes and institutional staff outside defined roles.
