The Dallas Mavericks are among the potential landing spots for Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne mentioned Tuesday while on ESPN Los Angeles’ Mason & Ireland show.
Mavericks Could Add Chris Paul
The Clippers sent Paul home during a road trip in December after they felt his leadership style in holding management, coaches, and players accountable became disruptive.
Paul remains under contract with the Clippers, but the future Hall of Famer is eligible to be traded. He also announced during the offseason that this campaign would be his final season.
If L.A. decides to move him, Paul could finish his NBA career with the Mavericks.
“It will work out where he ends up some place, because I think he is a respected figure in the NBA and whoever decides to bring him in if he gets bought out or waived or something like that later, that would be seen as a good karmic gesture,” Shelburne said.
Ramona Shelburne says the Mavericks are a team to watch for Chris Paul, after he eventually gets waived:
“I think the Dallas Mavericks make a lot of sense. He worked out with Cooper Flagg in the off-season, they’re represented by the same agency, I think Cooper likes him.”… pic.twitter.com/2zQ46j66SL

“My team, that I would say makes sense, and I’ve said this the whole time, I think the Dallas Mavericks make a lot of sense. He worked out with Cooper Flagg in the offseason. They’re represented by the same agency. I think Cooper likes him. You know, Chris is an acquired taste, right?
“Like, either you like somebody who’s, what do you call them, a redass? He’s intense. Right? I think Cooper’s intense, too, and they like each other. They get along. So, I could see that, but they don’t have a roster spot right now. So there’s just a lot of things that have to happen for people to have the roster spots and then the wherewithal and the decision to go do that. Plus, I think [Mavs head coach] Jason Kidd could handle him.”
Clippers Expected To Trade Paul
Paul has played 21 NBA seasons, averaging 16.8 points, 9.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He is a 12-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA honoree, and a member of the league’s 75th Anniversary Team.
Nicknamed “The Point God,” Paul is the Clippers’ franchise leader in total assists (4,076) and steals per game (2.1). He wanted to finish his career with the organization he spent six seasons with from 2011 to 2017.
For the Clippers to part ways with Paul, they would have to waive him and pay out his $3.6 million salary, agree to a buyout, or find a way to trade him before Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET deadline.
A trade is the only way for L.A. to get anything in return for the former first-rounder.
Last month, Paul was filmed playing basketball with Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts at the Clippers’ practice facility in a video posted to Instagram.
