The fallout from the Sherrone Moore scandal at Michigan is entering a new phase, and the focus is shifting toward the university itself. Paige Shiver, the former executive assistant whose relationship with Moore triggered his firing and criminal case, is now preparing legal action that could put the University of Michigan under intense scrutiny.
Shiver broke her silence this week through attorneys, accusing the school of failing to protect her while she worked inside one of the most powerful programs in college football.
Paige Shiver Accuses Michigan Of Failing To Protect Her
In her first public comments since the scandal erupted in December, Paige Shiver said she endured years of manipulation and pressure while working under former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore.
Her attorneys say the situation involved a major power imbalance between a head football coach earning millions and a staff member working directly under him in the athletic department.
Shiver claims the university ignored warning signs and allowed the situation to escalate inside the football program. Her legal team is now exploring a lawsuit that could target both Moore and the University of Michigan for failing to prevent the relationship and the events that followed.
The comments arrived just days after Moore reached a plea agreement in a criminal case tied to the same situation.
Sherrone Moore Scandal Timeline At Michigan
The controversy began in December 2025 when Shiver reported an undisclosed relationship with Moore to the university. Michigan immediately opened an investigation and fired Moore for violating internal policies regarding relationships between supervisors and subordinates.
Two days later, the situation escalated dramatically.
Prosecutors said Moore went to Shiver’s apartment in Pittsfield Township and forced his way inside. According to court documents, he grabbed household knives and threatened to harm himself while blaming her for the situation that had destroyed his coaching career.
Police arrested Moore that night, and he initially faced felony home invasion along with stalking and breaking and entering charges.
Those charges carried the possibility of years in prison.
However, prosecutors later dropped the felony counts as part of a plea agreement.
Paige Shiver Lawsuit Could Target Michigan Leadership
Shiver broke her silence through a statement released by her attorneys, accusing Moore of abusing the power he held over her while she worked inside Michigan’s football program. The statement claims she endured “years of manipulation, harassment, and exploitation by a man who held enormous power over her professional life as the head football coach of one of the nation’s most prominent college football programs.”
Her legal team also argued that the relationship existed within a major workplace power imbalance, saying “the power imbalance between a powerful head coach and a subordinate employee created an environment where our client felt pressured, intimidated and unable to escape conduct that should never occur in any workplace.”
Her statement also suggested she may not have been the only employee affected by Moore’s behavior, raising the possibility that additional complaints could surface as the legal process moves forward.
If Shiver files suit, Michigan could face allegations tied to workplace protections, Title IX responsibilities, and institutional oversight inside its athletic department.
The university has declined to comment on potential litigation.
Who Is Paige Shiver?
Before the scandal exploded across college football headlines, Paige Shiver worked largely behind the scenes inside Michigan’s football operations staff.
She joined the athletic department in 2021 and was promoted to executive assistant to the head coach in 2024. Her role placed her inside the daily operations of one of the most powerful programs in the sport.
Shiver also comes from a football background. She is the daughter of longtime Chicago Bears scout Jeff Shiver and graduated from Purdue before entering the college athletics world.
Her contract with Michigan expired earlier this month, and she is no longer employed by the university.
With Moore’s criminal case now resolved, attention is shifting toward whether her legal fight with Michigan becomes the next major chapter in one of the most chaotic scandals college football has seen in years.
