Texas Tech Tops Big 12 Championship Odds
A moneyline price on a college football futures board is a rare sight, and it speaks to how thoroughly Texas Tech separated itself from the rest of the conference last season.
The Red Raiders led the Big 12 in total offense, total defense, scoring offense and scoring defense on their way to the program’s first outright conference title since 1955.
The quarterback picture, however, has been anything but simple this offseason.
Longtime starter Behren Morton is gone after being drafted by the Patriots in April, and his presumed replacement, transfer Brendan Sorsby, never took a snap for the program.
Sorsby’s tenure became engulfed in a legal battle over gambling violations from his time at Indiana and Cincinnati, and after months of court fights over his eligibility, he and Texas Tech mutually parted ways in early July.
That leaves the job to Will Hammond, who was working his way back from a torn ACL.
Even with that uncertainty under center, the market clearly still trusts a deep, experienced roster and a program that’s shown it can reload quickly to stay atop the conference.
