This Saturday, the 2024 NBA playoffs will begin and several teams are eyeing the Larry O’Brien trophy. Players have battled through the rigorous grind of the regular season and the postseason awaits. Tomorrow, the final two play-in games will happen to determine the eighth seeds in their respective conferences.

Back in May of 2023, one DraftKings bettor placed a futures parlay for $100. In that bet slip,  they had the Texas Rangers to win the World Series, the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl, and the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the NBA Finals. Two of those three legs have already cashed with the Rangers winning the World Series and the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl.

Now, this DraftKings bettor is relying on the Thunder to potentially win a whopping $1.7 million. When they placed the bet last May, the Thunder were (70-1) to win the NBA Finals. Compared to their (16-1) odds currently found on DraftKings? Will the Thunder be able to win the Finals this season and help cash this bettor’s ticket? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Does the Oklahoma City Thunder have a realistic chance at winning the NBA Finals in 2024?

After a tight race at the top of the Western Conference, the OKC Thunder secured first place for the postseason. That means the Thunder will have home-court advantage in every series they play in the West. This season, the Thunder were the second-youngest team by average age, but they exceeded expectations.

A 57-25 record is their best since the 2013-14 season. Now, one DraftKings bettor is relying on OKC to cash their futures parlay. Normally, the bet they placed would have been 11,430-1 odds but this bettor used a 50% parlay boost promotion offered by DraftKings. With that significant boost, the odds on this three-leg parlay are 17,145-1. Meaning, this bettor could win $1.7 million if the Oklahoma City Thunder win the NBA Finals in 2024.

DraftKings Sportsbook director Johnny Avello commented on the bettor who needs Oklahoma City to cash their futures parlay.

He’s got good value with Oklahoma City at 70-1 for the final leg, and he’s probably got some hedging opportunities if he wants,” said Avello, “It’s a nice bet. It’s exciting.”

Out of all the teams in the postseason, the Thunder are tied for the fourth-lowest odds to win the Finals. The Boston Celtics have the lowest odds at (+150) and they are going to be hard to stop. Denver has 3-1 odds, the Clippers are 12-1, and the Bucks are 16-1 along with the Thunder. Despite being the #1 seed in the West, two other teams in the conference have better odds to win than OKC. The 2024 NBA playoffs will be highly stressful for this DraftKings bettor who needs Oklahoma City to win.
