First opened in 1967, Harbour Town Golf Links, located in Hilton Head, South Carolina, has served as the host of the PGA Tour event currently known as the RBC Heritage since 1969 and is annually ranked as one of the top public courses in the United States.

Designed by famed architect Pete Dye, whose legendary list of courses includes TPC Sawgrass, in consultation with 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus, the par-71 layout at Harbour Town certainly isn’t the longest course on the PGA Tour. But at approximately 7,100 yards from the tips, it still plays long to the average golfer.

But just because Dye’s design isn’t as long as others, that certainly doesn’t mean it’s not doesn’t offer other challenges, such as narrow fairways, bunkers, water hazards, and plenty of overhanging trees. Even if you hit the fairway on some holes, you may not have a clear shot into the green. Precision is key, and if you don’t hit your spots, the course will make you pay.

As mentioned, Harbour Town Golf Links is a public course. And the public certainly takes advantage as Pete Dye’s design is played nearly 40,000 times per year.

Now, what some may not know is that Harbour Town is one of three courses at Sea Pines Resort, which also features a second Dye design, Heron Point, as well as Atlantic Dunes, which was designed by Davis Love III.

So if you’re looking to play Harbour Town as well as one or both of the other courses, your best bet might be to book one of the several golf packages available at Sea Point, which start at roughly $350 per night, depending on which one you choose.

However, if you’re simply looking for a one-off round, that’s an option as well. Depending on the season, greens fees can range from about $200 to $400. So if you can swing that, you can swing at Harbour Town.
