2016 Wimbledon Finalist Milos Raonic Announces His Retirement From Professional Tennis

35 year old Canadian tennis player Milos Raonic announced his retirement on social media.

Raonic competed in the peak of the Big Three Era. He was a Roger Federer foe on several occasions. Raonic defeated Federer in a five set epic 2016 Wimbledon semifinal match.

Canadian men’s tennis was put on the map by Raonic. In the Open Era, he had an Australian Open semifinal, French Open quarterfinal, and Wimbledon final appearance.

His serve was the weapon that his opponents had difficulty managing.

Injuries Plagued Milos Raonic Throughout His Career

In a career with plenty of highs, there were lows that were dictated by injuries that sidelined Raonic for prolonged periods of time.

Those injuries began cropping up in his early 20s, affecting his foot, quadricep, and hamstring. They were devastating blows, but he continued to work his way back from them.

Raonic won eight titles. The Big Three of Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic squeezed him out as well as peers of his that are still playing including Gael Monfils, Stan Wawrinka, Nick Kyrgios, and Grigor Dimitrov.

The last time Raonic competed was at the 2024 Paris Olympics where he lost in the first round.

What Will He Do Next?

Raonic was not interested in a farewell tour, but he indicated that he is excited for what is next in his life.

He did not specify what that might be. Raonic has worked in Canadian sports media in the past when recovering from injuries.
