Eight players will compete in the 2025 Home Run Derby.
Six players have committed to the derby. Those players include Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves, Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, James Wood of the Washington Nationals, Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins, Oneil Cruz of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Two more spots will be filled in the coming days.
Raleigh is the most prolific hitter of the group with a league-leading 36 home runs, two more than New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.
36 home runs before the All-Star break is the fifth most in the MLB since 1933. Former San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds is the record holder with 39 at the break in 2001.
Wood might be the most exciting name on the list. The former No. 1-ranked prospect has become the best player on the Nationals, with a .287 average, 23 home runs, and 68 RBI.

It’s been nearly a decade since the Home Run Derby switched to a timed format. 2025’s version features the first round, semifinals, and finals.
In the first round, each contestant is allowed 40 pitches within three minutes. The object is to hit as many home runs as possible. Each contestant gets one 45-second timeout.
At the end of the time, contestants enter the untimed bonus round. They can hit as many home runs as possible before they record three outs — any swing that’s not a home run. Contestants also receive an additional out if they hit home runs that travel at least 425 feet during the bonus round.
The top four contestants advance to the next round. Ties are broken by the longest home run hit by each player.
The four contestants are then seeded in a bracket — No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3.
The rules remain the same except for the tiebreaker, which is a 60-second swing-off.
The two semi-final winners advance to the final, which features a two-minute time limit and 27 pitches. The contestant with the most home runs wins.
