The PGA Tour heads to Royal Portrush Golf Club for the 2025 Open Championship, the final major of the year. As the oldest and most prestigious tournament in golf, the Open will see the world’s best players travel to Northern Ireland for a shot at the coveted Claret Jug.
Despite its rich history and global attention, the Open Championship continues to offer the smallest purse among the majors. In 2025, the total prize remains at just $17 million USD.
Along with the prestige of becoming a major champion, the winner will take home an estimated $3.1 million and earn 750 FedEx Cup points.
Let’s go over what’s on the line this weekend at the 2025 Open Championship.
Open Championship 2025 PurseÂ
The 2025 Open Championship features a $17 million purse, with the winner receiving the standard 18% payout of $3.1 million.
While the prize fund is modest compared to the other majors, the Open Championship offers a range of valuable perks. The champion will earn 750 FedEx Cup points and 100 Official World Golf Ranking points.
In addition, the winner receives a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour and Open Championship invites until the age of 55. They’ll also earn exemptions into the other three majors for the next five years, along with automatic entry into next year’s Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
Below, we’ll break down the 2025 Open Championship purse and payouts for every player this weekend.Â

2025 Open Championship Purse Remains The Same As 2024Â
For the first time since 2012, the R&A has chosen not to increase the Open Championship purse. Similarly, the U.S. Open did not raise its purse this year at Oakmont.
In recent years, prize money for all four majors has steadily increased—until now. The winner this week at Royal Portrush will receive $3.1 million, matching the amount Xander Schauffele earned last year at Royal Troon.
The field will feature 156 players, with the top 70 (including ties) earning a share of the purse. Final payouts will depend on how many players make the cut. However, the British Open is one of the few tournaments that pays all players, including those who miss the cut. Every competitor is guaranteed a minimum of $8,750.
Here are the past winners and payouts for the Open Championship since 2000.
