76ers Could Be Shutting Paul George Down For The Rest Of The Season

Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George hasn’t played since March 4th, and is weighing treatment options that could potentially put an end to his season a month early.
76ers Could Shut Paul George Down For The Season
Philadelphia has been arguably the most disappointing team of the 2024-25 NBA season. They were projected by the sportsbooks to win 49.5 games, and were thought of as one of the teams that could put up a fight against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference.
But with 17 games left to play in the regular season, they’ve won just 22 games and lost 43. They are in 13th place in the East, five games out of the 10th and final Play-In spot, and 33 games worse than the conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.
The addition of former Clippers’ star Paul George was one of the biggest moves of last offseason, but hasn’t quite panned out they way the 76ers would have hoped. He has played in just 41 games so far this season while dealing with multiple injuries, and is averaging his lowest scoring output since 2011-12, which was his second season in the league.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, George will be meeting with health specialists this weekend in order to determine the status of his short-term future. Philadelphia shut down fellow struggling star Joel Embiid late last month, and George is likely headed down the same path.
The 76ers are not quite in range to be one of the three worst teams, which would give them a 14% shot at landing the 1st overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. But they can help their lottery odds by continuing their losing ways, and having Embiid and George on the shelf for the rest of the season would help in that regard.
Their 22-43 record is tied for the 5th-worst of any team in the league, and should be battling with the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors for draft position during the final weeks.
