The NBA issued a $100,000 fine to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday for violating the league’s rules related to injury reporting, according to the press release.
76ers Failed To Accurately Report Joel Embiid’s Status
According to the NBA’s announcement, the 76ers are being penalized for failing to accurately disclose Joel Embiid‘s status prior to a Nov. 30 game against the Atlanta Hawks.
After being initially listed as “out” for that matchup with the Hawks, Embiid was upgraded to questionable several hours before tip-off, then was upgraded to available later in the day.
The league noted that the $100,000 fine against the Sixers takes into account the team’s prior history of fines for similar injury reporting violations.

Philadelphia was fined twice during the 2023-24 season for injury reporting violations related to Embiid.
The NBA also fined the 76ers in October 2024 after team officials made public comments about Embiid’s health that did not properly reflect his health issues with his left knee.
The league’s investigation revealed that the Sixers did not violate player participation policy with Embiid’s missed games but did so when president of basketball operations Daryl Morey and coach Nick Nurse made statements that were “inconsistent with Joel Embiid’s health status and in violation of NBA rules.”
Injuries Have Impacted Embiid’s NBA Career
Embiid, who underwent left knee surgery in the offseason and has dealt with right knee soreness this campaign, missed Tuesday’s game against the Washington Wizards after suiting up on Sunday for the first time since Nov. 8.
The 7-foot big man hasn’t played at least 60 games in a single season since 2022-23. He was limited to just 19 games last season, averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 30.2 minutes per contest.
Prior to this campaign, Embiid hadn’t played in a game for the 76ers since Feb. 22 against the Brooklyn Nets. That was before he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
The procedure occurred just over one year after Embiid underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in the same knee the February prior. His original injury limited him to 39 games in 2023-24, and it led to the Sixers sidelining him until the last month of that regular season.
The 76ers (11-9) host the Golden State Warriors on Thursday.
