After weighing his options, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has elected to undergo surgery on his injured knee.

Joel Embiid Will Undergo Surgery

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Embiid will undergo arthroscopic surgery next week on his left knee.

This marks Embiid’s second surgery on his left knee in 14 months.

Charania notes that Embiid is expected to make a full recovery and will be reevaluated in six weeks.

It’s been a season from hell for Embiid. The 2023 MVP averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in just 19 games this season.

After dealing with injuries all season, the Sixers ruled Embiid out for the season in late February.

Since winning the MVP in 2023, Embiid has only played in 58 regular-season games and seven Play-In Tournament/playoff games over the past two seasons.

Last season, Embiid played in 39 games and had surgery on a torn meniscus in his left knee in February.

Embiid returned for the postseason, which ended with the Sixers losing to the New York Knicks in the first round.

The Sixers star won a gold medal for Team USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The 76ers Disastrous Season Continues

After acquiring Paul George in free agency this past offseason, the 76ers were one of the favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.

To say the 76ers have been a massive disappointment would be an understatement.

The Sixers are 23-53, the third-worst team in the Eastern Conference.

George has not lived up to his contract. The versatile forward averaged just 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists before being shut down for the season.

Tyrese Maxey may not return this season with a finger injury. Also, promising rookie Jared McCain had his season cut short with a torn meniscus in December.

Now, it would be in the 76ers’ best interest to lose games. Their first-round pick is top-six protected in this year’s draft. If the pick falls between No. 7-30, it will go to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
