During the Super Bowl LIX pregame, Fox Sports reported that the Jets intend to move on from Rodgers and find a new starting quarterback for 2025.

Per Jay Glazer, Rodgers flew back to New Jersey to speak with the Jets about his future.

With a new coach (Aaron Glenn) and general manager (Darren Mougey), the Jets informed Rodgers that they were going in a new direction at quarterback.

If the Jets trade or release Rodgers pre-June 1, it results in a $49 million dead cap hit, per Over The Cap. New York will likely designate Rodgers as a post-June 1 move, saving the team $9.5 million in cap space.

Rodgers’ tenure with the Jets ends in disappointment. After acquiring the quarterback via trade in 2023, Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in the opening moment of his first game with the Jets.

Rodgers returned as the starter in 2024. Rodgers compiled respectable numbers, including 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

However, the Jets experienced a tumultuous 5-12 season, resulting in the firing of their head coach and general manager.

If Rodgers wants to play in 2025, what team will sign him?

The Pittsburgh Steelers (+100) are the favorite to land Rodgers. Steelers quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are free agents. Perhaps Mike Tomlin wants to take a shot on the 41-year-old Rodgers on a cheap deal.

Surprisingly, the San Francisco 49ers (+300) have the next-best odds to land Rodgers. The 49ers will only sign Rodgers if contract negotiations break down with Brock Purdy.
