Adam Schefter: “The Dolphins Still Think They Have A Good Team”

There were some lackluster performances by a handful of teams during the NFL’s opening weekend, but no one had a worse showing than the Miami Dolphins. But while the fan base panics, the team’s leaders are apparently keeping cool heads and are hoping for a quick turnaround.

Dolphins Not Ready To Trade Tyreek Hill

During his weekly interview on the Pat McAfee Show, NFL insider Adam Schefter was asked about the Dolphins, and specifically about Tyreek Hill. The player who all but quit on his team at the end of last year was visibly frustrated during Miami’s Week 1 failure, and the rumors of the team moving on from Hill have only intensified.

Schefter doesn’t believe a trade will happen. At least not yet:

“I don’t think the Dolphins are thinking of trading Tyreek Hill now. But, if the season continues to go this way, obviously you’d have to think that all options would be on the table.”

Hill had career years during his first two seasons in Miami, but had perhaps his worst campaign in 2024. The Dolphins struggled throughout the year thanks in large part to injuries to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and Hill was quoted after their Week 18 defeat saying “I’m out” in regard to his future with the franchise.

After an offseason of question marks and peculiar roster decisions, the Dolphins laid an egg in their first game against the Indianapolis Colts. The team’s 47 yards in the first two quarters were their fewest in a half since 1991, and Daniel Jones was able to lead Indy on scoring drives every single time they touched the ball (7-for-7).

According to Schefter, the Dolphins are still holding out hope that they can bounce back.

“The Dolphins still think they have a good team. Again, it’s up to them to go out and prove it. So they’re not going to trade Tyreek Hill now. If they have more games like that and the losses start piling up…you start looking to the future. But they’re not there right now after Week 1.”

Perhaps surprisingly, Miami is favored to win next weekend. They will be playing their home opener against the New England Patriots, who fell to the Las Vegas Raiders during Sunday’s action. The Dolphins are listed at -1.5 early in the week, which is a line that will be interesting to monitor between now and game time.
